LEARNING MEASUREMENT & IMPACT
Explore Our Approach ↓
Move beyond attendance and feedback to understand what learning is changing.
Trainopaedia helps organisations define meaningful learning outcomes, identify practical indicators of application and build measurement approaches that connect learning with changes in behaviour, capability and workplace performance.
THE MEASUREMENT GAP
Attendance and satisfaction do not tell us whether learning changed performance.
Many learning interventions are measured at the point of delivery: who attended, whether participants liked the session and how they rated the facilitator. These measures can be useful, but they do not show whether people applied the learning or whether capability improved afterwards.
01
Participation Is Not Application
Completing a programme does not tell us whether participants are using the learning differently in their work.
02
Satisfaction Is Not Capability
Positive feedback can indicate a good learning experience, but it does not necessarily show that knowledge, skill or behaviour has changed.
03
Measurement Often
Starts Too Late
When success measures are decided only after training is delivered, it becomes difficult to determine what evidence should actually be collected.
Meaningful measurement starts by defining what should change before deciding how to measure it.
FROM ACTIVITY TO IMPACT
Look beyond completion to understand what changes after learning.
We help organisations identify practical measures across the learning journey, from participation and capability development to workplace application and performance evidence.
01
Learning Activity
Understand who participated, what was completed and how learners engaged with the experience.
02
Capability Change
Assess whether knowledge, skill, confidence or behaviour improved in the areas the intervention was designed to strengthen.
03
Workplace Application
Look for evidence that participants are using the learning in real work, conversations, decisions or tasks.
04
Performance Evidence
Identify relevant workplace indicators that can show whether improved capability is contributing to better performance.
05
Learning Improvement
Use the evidence collected to refine the intervention, strengthen reinforcement and improve future learning design.
Not every programme needs complex measurement. The aim is to collect evidence that is proportionate, useful and connected to the outcome that matters.
OUR MEASUREMENT APPROACH
Start with the outcome, then decide what evidence is worth collecting.
We help organisations design measurement around the purpose of the learning intervention. The focus is on identifying realistic indicators, gathering evidence at the right points and using what is learned to improve both capability and future learning design.
01
Define What Should Change
02
Identify Useful Indicators
03
Collect Evidence at the Right Points
04
Apply & Improve
Clarify the capability, behaviour or performance outcome the intervention is intended to influence.
Choose practical measures that can show whether progress is happening, without creating unnecessary measurement complexity.
Use assessments, observation, learner input, manager feedback or workplace indicators before, during and after the intervention where relevant.
Review the evidence in context, understand what the learning may have contributed to and use the findings to strengthen future design, reinforcement and support.
The purpose of measurement is not to prove that training caused every result. It is to build credible evidence of what changed, what was applied and what should improve next.
MEASUREMENT TOOLS & DELIVERABLES
Practical ways to make learning evidence visible and useful.
The measurement approach depends on the intervention, available data and the level of evidence required. We select only the tools that meaningfully support decision-making.
01
Outcome & Measurement Planning
Define expected changes, success indicators and when evidence should be collected before the intervention begins.
04
Manager & Stakeholder Observation
Gather structured input from people who can observe whether relevant behaviours or performance are changing at work.
02
Pre- & Post-Learning Assessments
Compare capability before and after learning through knowledge checks, simulations, self-assessment or demonstrated performance.
05
Learning Dashboards & Reporting
Bring key evidence together in a clear format that helps HR, L&D and business stakeholders understand progress and gaps.
03
Application Checkpoints
Understand whether participants are using the learning through follow-ups, reflection, assignments or workplace application reviews.
06
Review & Improvement Recommendations
Use the evidence to identify what should be retained, reinforced, redesigned or changed in future interventions.
Measurement should create better decisions about learning, not simply more data about learning.
